pride Inside That was the theme of Wednesday nights Georgetown District High School athletic banquet and thats what Malcolm MacLeod and Cheryl Thompson have MacLeod was presented with the high school male award and Thompson was honored as female heyear The two swim team members were surprised to hear their names ed as the winners I thought I would be nominated but I was really surprised shocked that I won said a very happy MacLeod I dldn expect to win Thomps on said It was nice to be recog nized MacLeod a Grade 13 student is one of the top high school swimmers In th province His events are the meter freestyle relay and 200 and meter freestyle He captured two firsts at the Peel championships and one gold and two silvers at the provincial championships He is a former member of the school cross country team Thompson s events are the and 100 meter freestyle and 100 Individual medley Shetookihreefirats at the Peel Hal tons this year and one gold and two silvers at the provincial championships She also contributed to school crosscountry team all the way Up to the Peel championships this year MacLeod and Thompson bath were thrilled with the fact that two outstanding athletes came from the swim team members The awards were testament swim coach Tom Adams who will probably give up his coaching position this year to concentrate on other things But the coach played down the compliment I was pleased and proud that they received the recognition It was a testament to the dedication and talents Cheryl and Malcolm have that they were picked but I think It was Just a case of two talented athletes being recognlied among the many They are all fine ho sold Other nominees for the outs ml male athlete award were basket ball and badminton player John Scott and basketball player Jeff Smith Thompsons competition was Award presented to the student who has contributed the most to Athletic Program as an all round performer Scott Is a member of the Student Athletic Association has officiated basketball has points other than team participation points and has volunteered to promote and help organize various athletic events Karen Trade won Ihe Paul Award for the graduating student who has the senior letter and has achieved the highest academic standing Trade who has contributed to the school volleyball basketball and badminton teams reached a 91 4 per cent average In her Grade 13 studies The M J Furlong Award for the teams that win the Peel Halton cham plonshlps was given to the cross country team the swim team and the wrestling team A new award this year the Barry Award was presented to students who did volunteer work for the promotion or organization of athletic events John Scott Michelle Mlehm and Roberta Burke received the award for their work with S A A Murray Webb received Award for his Involvement In the basketball program and Peter crosscountry and track and field team member Sue Kristenscn and Michelle Mlehm who played basketball volley ball and badminton for the school Also awarded at the banquet were junior and senior letters those students who have collected IB points junior and 30 points senior through out their high school years Points are awarded for participation on teams or In other athletic events David Banks Joanne Bingham Tim Davis Tim Dixon Doug Gillespie Tina Lord Cam Ma elver Sue Martin Andrea and Rich Sedore received their junior letters Harold Bransch Gary Hulbert Sandra Marclnluk Barb McKceman Dalton Terry Anne Ramsay Ashley Saunders and Karen Trudell received their senior letters Letters of distinction were award to graduating students who have earned their senior letter and have made extra contributions to the Athlet Program at school other than their participation on teams Michelle Mlehm Cathy Robin Dodokln Roberta Burke and Liz Ramsay were each awarded letters of distinction John Scott accepted the McLaren Allen was presented with the award for his work with the football team Scott Murray accepted the award for his coaching of the midget girls volleyball team Tina Moore received the award for her work with the cheerleaders Bransch and Wheeler were presented with the Award for their work setting up the slide presentation for the athletic banquet and Lynn and Ann Moffat received the award for their volunteer work at wrestling meets A special presentation was made to Sandy who gave up his free time to come to the school and teach and coach this yean rugger team Without him the program would not have originated said alternate coach Bill Bingham It was also announced at the banquet that Fred
