scene and is deriving funding from increasing licence fees for commercial fishermen ing a licence for residence angling for coastal fishing taxing commercial fish landings The Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters is now pursuing the Ontario government with this information and is king for similar action in Ontario This organization of some sportsmen and conservation minded persons Is determined working for an angling licence for Ontario as major tool for the preservation and enhancement of Ontario s sports fishing The annual Big Fish Contest is drawing to a close November is the last day which is only three days away so if you intend to get in on it yoo had better get out fishing now The fishing is good despile or because of the cold weather and some of the largest fish of the year can be taken now for the angler who can get his eyes off the hunting scene enough It sure was nice hear of the pound ounce Chinook Salmon Liken at the mouth of the Credit river recently And on pound test that Thereare still salmon coming into the rivers and the salmon fishing in areas that are open on the Credit is good The major problem as always is the influx of fishermen or should I say non sportsmen Into the fishing scene when the salmon are running The river banks parks where fishing is on the Credit River ore a terrible mess of tangled fishing line garbage and an accumulation of discords from tnese socalled fishermen Once again the Credit River will be closed to fishermen after the Sept trout season ending as no one wants to have to look at that raws and put up with the tresspassing problems The ministry has warned he public of this action many times and the honest sportsmen and women of Ontario will once again suffer from the actions of the slobs The Paper Mill dam modifications are proceeding on schedule an expected finish by Christmas It la too late to Infer the savings that could have been made If the town council of ilton Hills had not voted against the removal of the dam at Georgetown The removal would have cost a few thousand dollars whereas the final cost on contract la Outdoor Happenings An organization has pardon the pun up Going under the name been working on the variations just these past weeks but that there are a lot of techniques that have to be taught Wepractlceallllle bit each day on a certain technique McKay says the boys are starting to hit reasonably well with the high crotch The coaches have developed a new program for the boys that they think will help them in competition later In the year The team has started on a weight training program and approximately minutes during their practice Is Dean Sea lien the grade team captain says the weight training program will provide the team with some exercises an hiking learn is concentrating on muscle strength rather than muscle endurance This means that the boys try to lift a heavy set of weights just six times rather than concentrating on many repetitions of the same weight Coach Ray Smith says that over a three week period the boys have Improved their overall muscle strength substantially The average Increase in the amount of weight lifted by each boy has increased by pounds since three weeks ago Smith says STRENUOUS Moot people might now be aware of the exertion placed on a wrestler during competl Hon a report that wrestling for three minutes equivalent for a boy to run a J metre race During normal competition the boys compete in two three- minute bouts In a tournament the boys might compete In six matches in a day which Is equivalent to running a marathon Smith says The boys must be in lop condition lo compete and so the practices are geared to facilitate this The practice starts with eight to ten minutes of stretching and warm up exercises Usually the do a little running or play dodge ball Then the group Is split into two groups and one group goes to the weight room for minutes this leaves the coaches to give the boys more individual attention when teaching wrestling techniques For minutes the are drilled on new takedowns and the coaches instruct and demonstrate on Improving the team technique A certain amount of the time is spent on reviewing what has been taught during the previous weeks One drill the coaches were using for the team was a reaction drill where at the sound of the whistle the boys slap their hands on a chair In front of them as fast as they can SERIOUS PRACTICES The team is serious about practicing and if anyone misses two practices without telling the coach beforehand they are cut from the team Any member of the team who comes late the practice must do extra laps at the end of the session If a team member misses a practice he must to the team Coach McKay feels that it pays dividends for the team in being strict about attendance The sharper he kids look in practice the sharper they are on the mat he In February the practice five day a week and then they compete on the weekends so they are wrestling six days a week at the peak of their season This year s team competitive members from last year Coach McKay feels that with the team they have Georgetown can win the Hal ton title and the regional Peel Hal ton title Provincial ly this is a young team this is a building year We re so young Coach Smith adds anything we get after the Peel Halton championships will be a nice surprise Some team members lo watch this year are two dual second place winners from last year Bob and Mike Sweciie M was second in the pound division and Bob was second In the pound Captains of the team Mike
