The Oakville Fire Department arrived at 1230 Marlborough Court to find a blaze in an apartment on the ninth floor. Firefighters were responding to a call received just after midnight. There was a fire in the apartment and the smoke had migrated onto the hallways, said Oakvilles Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn. The majority of the buildings residents were temporarily evacuated while the occu- pants of the apartment in which the fire occurred were taken to hospital with minor smoke inhalation. The cause of the blaze is not yet known, but it was reported to have started in the apartments kitchen. The fire did consume the kitchen so the occupants will be out of their apartment until that gets repaired, Glynn said. The remainder of the residents of the building returned back to their homes after the fire was extinguished. Glynn gave a word of caution to people. Be careful when cooking and make sure you stay in the room when youre cooking. This was the second fire in Oakville in a week. Last Friday, July 29, a mid-afternoon blaze gutted a home on Ravine Gate causing an estimated $800,000 in damage. That fire is suspected to have started at the back of the northwest Oakville home where a contractor was soldering in the backyard.
