Instead, she died on the QEW Saturday morning following an encounter with a man she'd met mere hours before. In an interview Monday night, Robbie Burns, a man who identified himself as her fiancsaid he was in the car with Wilkinson and the stranger that night. Police would not confirm a third person was in the car, but Burns' story and his rela- tionship to Wilkinson was confirmed by another of her friends, Jennifer Russell. Burns said he and Wilkinson were finaliz- ing plans to move to Nova Scotia to start a family and to stay clean. They both had struggled with drugs in the past, but helped each other get clean two months ago. On Saturday, according to Burns, they met a man outside of the Wesley Centre in down- town Hamilton. They got in his car to drive to Oakville to hang out. I used to live in Oakville, I had some friends there, Burns said. When they got to Oakville, the couple didn't feel comfortable and started to walk away outside his house. The man insisted he'd drive them home. Part way back, Burns said the man changed his mind, pulled over, and tried to kick them out by the side of the highway. Burns said he jumped out to try and make sure that didn't happen, but when he tried to jump back in the car, the driver sped off with Wilkinson still in the car. Burns tried to chase them down the QEW. He tried to wave down cars for help. Nobody would stop. Burns said he saw the man hit Wilkinson frepeatedly in the face before they sped out o view. By the time he caught up, the car was gone and his fiancas lying on the road. She died at the General Hospital later that day. He's just devastated, torn right apart, their close friend Jennifer Russell said. They've been together and through a lot together in the last four years. Russell said the pair met in Hamilton. Wilkinson had been living with her grand- mother in Grimsby, but had moved in with Burns just days before she died. Burns said they had plans to leave for the east coast by the end of the month. Now he doesn't know what he'll do. Russell, too, is a mess. Amber definitely didn't deserve this, she said. She was sweet and bubbly. Sarcastic. I don't even know what to say. She's Amber, she was original. Wilkinson had two children that are in her mother's custody in Whitby. Russell said getting clean was Wilkinson's number 1 priority. She'd moved to Grimsby to start the pro- cess, and was being very careful, making sure to make the right decisions. Ontario Provincial Police have charged 32-year-old Billy Gladysz of Oakville with second-degree murder in the death of Amber Lynn Wilkinson. Amber definitely didn't deserve this. She was sweet and bubbly. Sarcastic. I don't even know what to say. She's Amber, she was original. Jennifer Russell, friend It takes 8 muscles to read this ad. Dont take your muscles for granted.
