IMPRESSIONS On behalf of the Town of Oakville, Arborwood Tree Service is currently treating qualifying ash trees this summer to protect them from the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB). The Coalition for Urban Ash Tree Conservation has published an article where they strongly endorse ash tree conservation and believe that in many cases, tree conservation is economically and environmentally superior to tree removal. This agreement formally recognizes our mutual desire to take our partner- ship to the next level. Through this partnership, McMaster University will provide funding $200,000 annually and resources to support medical training while HHS will give the medical learners the opportunity to gain hands on experience by training at one of its community hospitals alongside its physicians. This partnership recognizes the caliber of our HHS physicians across our three community hospitals, said John Oliver, HHS president and CEO. We have a very progressive team of dedicated specialists and family doc- tors who are very committed to teach- ing, training and mentoring medical students. These skilled professionals are constantly raising the bar by intro- ducing new technologies, procedures and improving ways of delivering care. We have a lot to offer and a great track record. HHS and McMaster will also col- laboratively develop a Clinical Education Centre (CEC) to increase clinical learning opportunities for all levels of medical trainees including medical students and residents. The CEC will serve as a hub to develop, organize and coordinate clin- ical rotations through HHS three community hospitals. The agreement is based on up to 60 placements across HHSs three hospitals annually. Placements will initially start within the obstetrics, pediatrics and primary care disciplines and expand into other areas. HHS physicians and specialists who take on a teaching role will be granted academic faculty appoint- ment with McMaster University. Martin said many of the students who have trained at HHS hospitals to date have already set up practices in the community and have joined HHS hospitals. He also said HHS involvement in this initiative will help attract new physicians to Halton. This affiliation comes at a very exciting and opportune time as we start building the new Oakville hospi- tal, which has been designed to include a wide array of learning spaces that will help accommodate and enhance the medical training, said Oliver. We look forward to working with McMaster and taking on key roles in training medical professionals.
