Sittler will host the third annu- al Smart*Ass Golf Tournament in support of Screen Colons Canada (SCC). Darryl lost his wife Wendy to a lengthy battle with colon cancer in 2001. Wendy was a courageous woman who never stopped believ- ing that a cure could be found, said Sittler. She actively worked to help raise funds for the disease that she contracted and in her honour, Im proud to help increase awareness for the importance of colon cancer screening. An array of athletes and artists will be announced over the coming weeks that will join Sittler. The first two to lend their sup- port is Canadian baseball legend, Cy Young and baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Ferguson (Fergie) Jenkins, who will be joined by Dick Todd, coach of the gold medal- winning Junior National team. Accordingly to SCC, colon can- cer is the second most prevalent and deadly form of cancer. Colon cancer is up to 90 per cent preventable through early detection and screening. SCC is the only organization in Canada whose sole mission is to increase awareness for colorectal cancer and promote screening. The 2011 tournament will be held at Glen Abbey Golf Club (GAGC) with registration at 11 a.m. and commence with a shot- gun start at 1 p.m. The evening will feature a live musical performance by Oakville musician Andrew Cole.
