the thought of going out and spending hundreds doll arson new equipment for heir child or children put up registration fees and then look forward to bitter six clock Saturday mor i rigs at the arena When I was a young hockey player pretending to be the likes of Go die Howe or Bobby Orr lit all depended on what position the coach had me playing I know my parents must have dreaded the thought of what was to come over the next few months without a complaint they made sure I was out there develop my skills and learning the meaning of team effort The days I was t out on the ice myself and the guys were under the streetlights playing shinny with lumps of snow Ice for goal posts Things haven t changed much over the past decade Kids are still playing hockey on and off the ice and a handful of those kids are someday going to attain those dreams of NHL stardom It our job as adults to see that these kids are given every chance to make those dreams come true For the parents who can t or don want to pay the incredibly high cost for new hockey equipment there are usually hundreds of parents who no matter how much they push on their kids heads find their offspring have grown another six inches and their equipment docsn fit These parents rather than throw away all the equipment they bought last year would dearly love to recoup some of their costs so why not put an ad in he paper or make a few phone calls to other parents who might have some unused equip It bound be cheaper than going out and buying new stuff When the youngsters are out in the street playing shinny sometimes they are so involved in their games they don l notice pounds of steel bearing down on them Drivers please slow down and give horn a honk because It s awfully hard to play hockey from a pine box or a hospital bed For the parents who feel they just can face getting up so early in morning and play taxi to a bunch of just think of what your parents did for you on those cold January mornings If they did it for you then you can do it for your kids The last topic I have lo cover is sum med up with the old saying II just a game Well It is Just a game Minor hockey is for fun and recreation If a kid misses a shot or makes a bad play tell him about it after game and don I yell across the so the poor fellow will end up colored the same as the goal posts Kids deserve encouragement rather ruLcule so Robinson said the OMHA has agreed with the decision to go with SAS and that the difference in transportation costs would work out Ihe same once bussing was included in the lower price Parents who are
