Georgetown Acton Wednesday July 9 Junior Sabres get reprieve from AMHA inn Iwm flanaralmsnagar Despite the numerous problems plaguing the Acton Sabres in the past few months it looks like the Junior squad will be back In action this coming season After a meeting July the Sabres live bad decided to shelve the team after they received no response to a plea for help The current executive who have run the team for the past five years admitted they were tired and some new blood had to be injected into the team if It was to continue this season As well a shortage of money had left the team crippled leaving no alternative to the executive but to pull the team out of the league for a year Late Sunday night the Sabres president Frank received a call from Carol Robinson secretary of the Acton Minor Hockey Association expressing an interest in taking over the troubled team An emergency meeting was called by the Sabres executive at which it was decided the AMHA would assume the position of the Sabres executive Robinson stated during the meeting that with both the Juvenile team and the Sabres collecting dust over the winter there would be no place for hockey players graduating the AMHA system to go We aren t sure that we can run the Sabres successfully but we have to at least give it a try said Robinson Robinson also requested that the mem of the present Sabres executive advise the AMHA on procedures of running a Junior club and said We are certainly going to give it the Sabres our best shot As far as money goes said Robinson there shouldnt be any real problems but right now we have to concentrate on getting the Sabres for the start of the season which is less than two months away Neil Downs spokesman for the Ontario Hockey Association said here was some concern over the Sabres being able to return to the league after with drawing because a tentative schedule had been made up Barring complications after formal notification of the change In live the Sabres should be able to return to the league Downs also noted that the league will be increased to ten teams this year with Acton returning and the Vaughan Raiders Joining the league for the the annual Glen Minor Ball tourney Acton came away the big winner over the two day event walking off with titles in five of the divisions while Milton East and the host Glen claimed one title each Acton dominated the atom division win ntng the boys and girls titles while the Milton squirt girls and Acton Tricounty team dominated the squirt divisions The Glen Williams Pee wee boys emerged victorious in their ageclass while Acton won out in the girls group In bantam it was the Acton girls who emerged winners while claimed the overall boys title Caledon East captured the midget crown for the boys with topping the girls competition New Dundee clips Battling New Dundee to a 33 tie in the bottom of the ninth inning the Acton Junior A lost a Friday night Roy Spear pitched a fantastic game striking 13 New Dundee batters out but a home run in he eighth frame and a run in the bottom of the ninth ousted the A Dave Wilson put Acton on the scoreboard first after singling to first and then moving into scoring position on a stolen base and a single by Scott Kennedy A squeeze play by Don sent Wilson home It wasn t until the fourth inning that Acton struck again and this time Gord Scott pounded out a double and stole third to march into scoring position An error by a Now Dundee outfielder left room for Scott to romp across borne plate Unfortunately New Dundee had their bats warmed up
