meeting The North Pall alive Care Interest Group which was or to study the needs and concerns of the dying and their families Is holding its second meeting April the Milton hospital The speaker for the April meeting will be the Reverend Clinton a former member of the Halton District Health Council presently a grief counsellor and chaplain at West Park Hospital Toronto Rev Rohr will speak on grief and bereavement The overwhelming Interest shown at its first meeting January at Glen Will aged the raordinators to arrange this fallow up meeting Plans are also being made for a meeting May in Acton and a June meeting in George town Tho concept of total care for the dying and their families is known as Palliative or Hospice Care It ffers from trad care In several as pects 1 The physical core of the patient and symptom control are the prime concern but once this Is done psychological lal and spiritual needs are of central Import The patient and family not Just the patient alone are the unit of care Bereavement follow up is always a sequel Where a patient has to be hospitalized in a Ilia Hon Is watched for and minimized and so there Is a relaxation of regulations I con visitors food etc The focus Is not on dying but on the quality of the remaining life There always exists the potential for personal growth reconciliations and fulfilment There are mechanisms of support for the stresses ex perlenccd by the patient family and core givers A blurring of traditional professional roles Is accepted neces patience skilled listening and con tributlons from different disciplines to a team ap proach to care giving The group coorgan izers Karen Ferguson and Eva Sanson feel a strong com mi to creating community focus on this approach to care The aims of the organizers are 1 To stimulate people to investigate their personal feelings about death Invite people to con the special needs of persons with life threat illness and their family 3 Introduce the avail able services which are designed to meet those needs Encourage people confidence and comfort In recognizing these needs and offering the necessary supports to their patients friends or family Directory listings Walker proposed adding per student In grades seven and eight for text books The board expanded that to include all grades six seven and eight That added I ve had telephone calls from several par with respect to Stewart town school com plaining there are not enough text or resource books In the library said Walker Acton trustee Bruce said in reference to Mid die School I think we are selling them a little short Other attempts to cut the budget at the last minute failed as did a bid to add for lunch room supervision Former board chair man Bill Herd tried to drop about million It seems to me in education the time has long passed when we can come and ask taxpayers to contribute mightily when about half of hem don have children In the system said Herd The Oakville trustee said he did not want to delete what he termed addons such as ex of core French special education energy conservation minicoin or other Items He wanted to cut the budget by the value of the add There was some dis sension within the budget committee One member Bill told Herd There no place in that budget where we could find the million Another committee member Crosier challenged the ad ministration to f nd the money I
