The Acton Free Press Wednesday Feb 15 1978 Winter carnival time at McKenzieSmith A bright winter day was in stare for students at McKen winter carnival last Wednesday The pleasant outdoor temperatures were welcomed by the students and staff who spent most of the day outside enjoying the many activities planned for the carnival The students competed in athletic house teams to earn points for their team There were 12 different activities going on in and around the school Students attended each activity on a rotating basis working as a team The camfvat took the theme of the Phantom with all he activities planned with this in mind The first event The Phantom exploding is land took place in the gym For this event the team was placed on a floor mat which was the exploding island Team members had to try to make it to the safe island by using various gym equipment and without touching the floor To throw a twist Into the works six team members were blindfolded and six crippled Points were awarded to cams who made it to safety without breaking any of the rules The second indoor event was the Phantom Hot Seat which was held In the hallway of the school Tht students were in pairs with one dent on a scooter and the other pushing the scooter through an obstacle course The Phantoms twist in this event was the person pushing the scooter was blindfolded The Phantom crazy bowling which was outside was a variation of bowling with snowballs using as the bowling ball Many of the traditional winter carnival activities such as toboggan races sled pulls and races were enjoyed at the carnival Outdoor winter golfing and a soccer obstacle race were among the days activities Gold team came out victor ious in overall carnival points with recorded Blue team was second red was third followed by brown green and then orange The winter carnival was organized by physical cduca lion teacher Jeff Roach Middle school principal Gary Dawk Ins felt the day was very successful He at much of the success to the students who part to a very high degree with a positive attitude and high spirits throughout the day ITS HARD TO tell if Andrea enjoyed the hill event at McKenzieSmith winter carnival She had
