Halton PCs Joe Clarks image is down but riding members are up Despite he sagging popularity in the political polls of Progressive Conser vative leader Joe Clark and recent political defections and retirements of three fed eral caucus members the Federal PC Assoc la tion is In good shape accord to association officials Members of the association are more concerned with rebuilding the riding associa tion which was split apart by redistribution in June and gearing up for their riding nominations In six months according to the association president Bob Jones Our people are very dis appointed with the polls said Mr Jones but without sounding too paranoid he Joe Clark has received a little unfair treatment In the press Some of our people are get ting a little annoyed with it Terry OConnor the lead ing candidate for the PC nomination echoed Mr Jones sentiments Joe Clarks image is not what it should be but the real issue has been taken away from the public he said Minister have over emphasized the national- unity Issue when the real pro blem is the national economy People dont have the time to listen about the economy said Mr OConnor Theyre more interested In Quebec The two to the north and south of and now this feeling has to be turned around She said the splitting of the federal riding along with provincial redistribution and regional government has left Georgetown year earlier but the spring provincial election forced them to postpone those plans the riding nominations ahead he felt the association would be proceeding with their rebuilding plans in full gear He admitted the most likely candidate it the moment is Terry Connor who previouslv the seat before being the Liberal member However he interest in the nomination has shown by two other members The Acton
