health clinic serving Milton Georgetown and Acton has been established at the Health Unit King St Milton North Mental Health Clinic is a twoyear pilot project supported by the Ontario Ministry of Health and operating under the of the Health Unit Clinic Mae Vaivods said one of the clinic will be available in each of the towns during the day The clinics three therapists will rotate evening duty to enable the clinic to be open occasional evenings for the convenience of clients who cannot attend during the day Ms Vaivods said The evening schedule is yet to be drawn up The clinic will provide vices for all age groups vices mil include assess treatment and follow- up and a of treatment modalities including individ ual and group iher apies he said Ms said she hopes to keep the clinic organized in such a wa that staff can get involved at short notice when needed such as in a crisis sit Depending on the caseload now more than 30 clients the staff should be client within a week of schools hospitals police and jo lis People who are having pro blems coping with life in some way are unsuccessful in dealing with the problems themselves and are suffering as a result are the people the clinic is prepared to help Ms Vaivods said When a prospective client calls the clinic for help he can expect to be asked to come In for an interview If the client is unable to come to the clinic staff may arrange a home visit During the Initial Inter view the client will have a chance to talk about his pro blem and provide background information Ms Vaivods said The therapist and client would then draw up some goals and a plan of action that the client would want to be in with she added If there are questions or doubts about the problem then the client would probably be asked to return for an inter view with one of the con suiting physicians present In addition to offering ect services to clients clinic staff will be available for con sulfation with other common ity agencies The clinic which began operations in April now has its full complement of four full time and twopart time staff Mae Vaivods a registered nurse to her new posl lion a varied background In the mental health field In eluding experience at Queen St and Psychiatric Hospitals and most recently the Forensic Unit at the Toronto Jail Social Worker Don has a special interest In com development He hopes to be working with community programs with shared interests in developing programs that would contribute to the pre vention of problems Mr Disher taught at the School of Social Work at McMaster Universit before joining the clinic therapy team Dr Roy Butler and Philomena Newberry will consultation and cal supervision to the team on a part time basis Dr Butler a psychiatrist is an assistant professor in the department of psychiatry at Medical School Newberry a paediatrician is associated with McMaster University Medical Centre Child and Family Centre Chcdokc She is on the faculty of the med school in the department of paediatrics For the past six years she has been con cerned exclusively with devleopment and behavioral aspects of paediatrics Jane Marsha is full time secretary for the clinic North
