idea of how to spend a plea Sunday Well eques thoroughly enjoyed the competitive trail ride held this weekend at the Halton Presbytery Grounds on the Blue Springs Line The annual event sponsored by the Rockwood Trail Riders has been held or the past 12 years and attracts con from all over the pro vince even as Tar away as Michigan Riders had five hours and 15 minutes to complete the course that wound from the church grounds north through bush and trail above Rock wood to Camp west through the Eden Mills area south then east through picturesque country crossing farms until the grounds were reached once mere The Judged event is not a race but a timed endurance ride where veterinarians take several checks on each horse pulse respiration and general condition The best conditioned horse who comes in on time wins his class This years ride included several mudholes steep hills and a lovely swim through the pond Dave Taylor a veteran trail rider and member com merited You t slacken too much had to keep her going pretty steady He said the event was a challenging ride Two other dents also club members Annette Adams and Wilson thought the ride really made you work There was no time for stopp ing we had to run the last live miles said Annette Another ride veteran Pat Dales of remarked that we have the longest miles In the country around here Of the 68 entered 60 managed to complete the ride An added attraction this year were four Iclandlc ponies members of the dandle horse team com peting in the ride The ponies make their home in with ten other members of their breed and are owned by Susan Hodgson of Toronto and her sister Hood of A social evening with buffet supper was held after the ride followed by awards Kaz club THREE DAVES IN A ROW Grand sweepstakes winners at Sunday s Rockwood Trail Riders competitive ride were Dave Johnson owner of Travis the winning horse Dave Freeman rider of the winning horse andDaveTaylor reserve sweepstakes winner All are members president was trallmaster assisted by many club members laying trail and Judging in various capacities The veterinary teams were headed by Dr R Owen Dr Derma Benn Dr M Hacking and Hacking Marg Cox was ride secretary Paul Cooper ride farrier and Paul Tompson in charge of trailer Many many other members acted as recorders pulse and respiration teams timers and weight recorders The Emergency Rescue another full time judge and Thursday afternoon John Robinson of Burlington was sworn in to fill the new position He joins Judge Douglas Latimer and Judge William Sharpe on the bench for provincial court criminal cases The fourth Halton Judge is James fuller who handles family court work Crown Attorney James explained the caseload has been growing lately and Halton has been using the services of outside judges about four days a week for the pas year Judge Robinsons appointment gives three men full time for criminal work and relieves the travelling judges for work in other regions Chief Judge Fred Hayes of provincial court ad ministered the oath of office to Judge Robinson in a brief ceremony at the provincial court house Milton Thursday Assisting on the bench was Judge of the County and
