St Joes picnic is a success On Sunday June at Pro spect Park St a Catholic Church celebrated Its anniversary with a family picnic Upon their arrival at the gote the picnickers received a special anniversary keep sake ribbon from Mrs Dunn Mrs and Mrs The day was filled with sun shine and smiling faces as families and friends joined In on the many events of the afternoon Everything from a three legged race egg tossing and father and son speed shaving took place The winners were awarded first second and Councillor meets with contractor Last week councillor Pat attended an inspection meeting with the contractor of the Acton Water Pollution Control Plant Construe tion the engineers from V Anderson Associates and George Stone special projects Supervisor for the region The purpose of the meeting was to hear a progress report from the resident engineer and to resolve any problems that had developed A contract for the ex pansion of the Acton Water Pollution Control Plant was signed on April 1977 with Varamae Construction of Toronto in the amount of The Contractor has begun work on the site and the term of the contract is expected to be approximately one year fn 1350 he first plant was built to handle 250 gallons per day In 1969 the plant was expanded to handle The present expansion will bring the capacity of the plant to 1 gallons per day The type of treatment process for this plant is the activated sludge process employing primary settling mechanical aeration and final settling and anaerobic digestion for sludge con ditiomng Tertiary treatment using an effluent settling pond followed by a seasonal filter bed and are incorporated in the design The result is an overall treat efficiency In the order of per cent Unlike plants under construction there is anticipated to be little haulage of excavated material from the plant site There will however be some importation of granular material for the filter beds being installed The plant expansion is a Region project with financial assistance from C M H C the Ministry of the Environment The Consulting Engineers for the project are Anderson Limited of Toronto Sr Cit apts available Hal ton Housing Authority has announced
