ArtsceneWith a house full of art, painter opens home galleryBy Dominik KurekOAKVILLE BEAVER STAFFAt age 81, Oakville artist Sally Durie has been finding she has as much energy to paint as ever before.So, in order to display her work and potentially sell some of it, the long-time art-ist is opening up her home gallery to the public.My home is full of paintings so I thought, why dont I just call it my studio gallery, Durie said.The artist said her home is filled with paintings and so she is experimenting with the home display.Ive been through the gallery thing and I had my own gallery. Now, I guess, I seem to be painting just as much. I just wanted to see what happens. Either way, well try it and see, she said.The artist took up painting at age 18, try-ing a variety of mediums and now uses acrylic-based paints. She has been a member of the Mississauga Arts Council, Visual Arts Ontario and the Society of Canadian Artists, where she is still a lifetime member. She also mentored numerous artists at her former gallery.She owned an old Catholic church in Mississauga, where she lived prior to moving ERIC RIEHL / OAKVILLE BEAVERin Oakville.
