Mount Albert & District Congratulations are extended to Marilyn Gibney, Bertha Crone and Anna Morton who placed first in the ladies trio class at the Ontario Junior Farmers Conference singing competition in the King Edward Hotel, Toronto, last Saturday. The girls sang three numbers, Katerina, a Ukrainian folk song, the test piece sang by all five competing trios and You'll Never Walk Alone another of their own selections. This group scored 80 points in the contest and are well known in this district both in the United Church and at social functions. The Explorer group will be meeting on Saturday mornings at 9.30 a.m. instead of Friday evenings, starting on January 16. Meetings will be held in the United Church as usual. All organizations within the United Church are asked to have their books balanced and audited this week in order that the financial statement for the year 1959 may be printed and a date set for the annual meeting. Horticulture Society members are reminded of the annual meeting and banquet in the United Church on Tuesday, Jan. 19 at 6.30 p.m. The meeting is open to anyone interested after 8 p.m. The Couples Club of Trinity United Church Newmarket, will be the guests of the local United United Church Couples Club Friday, Jan. 22. All members are asked to note the change in date from January 15 to the above date. The WI Mout Albert branch will meet at the home of Mrs. Harvey Gibney on Thursday evening, Jan. 14. This will be a citizenship meeting under the convenorship of Mrs. H. Gibney. Roll call will be "Did you vote in the last election?" The Aurora Public School Board held its first meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 7 in the board room of Wells St. school. Rev. and Mrs. Edward Bragg were at home to members of their congregation and friends Sunday afternoon and evening, at the manse, 57 Spruce St. The Women's Missionary Society of Aurora United Church held their first meeting of the New Year in the church parlors on Thursday, Jan. 7 at 3. p.m. Reports of the past year were presented by officers and secretaries: the treasurers report showed that the allocation for 1959 of $750 had been exceeded by $20. The 1960 officers were installed by Rev. J. F. G. Morris after which the new president Mrs. R. Besley took the chair; Mrs. St. John accompanied by Miss L. Reynolds sang a lovely solo, "Did You Stop to Pray This Morning". Mr. Morris gave a splendid talk on, "My Version of Our Church". He stated that the real mission of the Church is to bear witness. He pointed out the danger of the Church becoming too man-made instead of following God's divine plan. He said there is need for greater fellowship and outreach. Sutton District Social News Mr. and Mrs. Dick Holder left on Saturday for a month's holiday in Acupulco, Mexico. They travelled by plane from Malton airport. Mr. and Mrs. Clare Grieve are also due for a vacation in the south. They left on Monday, motoring in the direction of New Orleans, Louisiana. They will be staying at different spots, depending on the nice weather. Mr. Ralph Falle, Sr., is convalescing at his home following surgery at Newmarket's York County Hospital last week. Sutton Kinettes have been at various community work bees lately. The work at the library still goes on with books being mended and catalogued. They are also helping with the sorting of the used clothing for the Welfare Committee for this district. Mrs. Aubrey Timmins, registrar for the Kinettes, is gathering used Christmas cards, empty round salt boxes, empty spools, and used orange juice and milk cartons. These are to be sent to a centre for retarded children. Annual meetings are taking place all over the district this month. On Tuesday, January 5, in St. James Anglican Church House, the Rev. Dr. M. FARRMEN TIE TANNERS A sizzling three-team race is developing between Newmarket Drugs, Farr Motors and Davis Leather Tanners in the Hub bantam NHL, reports league director Al DuGuid. Farr Motors, going all out, tied Davis Tanners 2-all in the lone Jan. 6 contest. The point pick up gave the Farrmen a first place tie with Newmarket Drugs, both leaders having eight points each. The Skinners are a point off the pace. Murrag Ivany and Bob Hewett scored a goal each to break in new Farr Motors sweaters. Wayne Burling and John Lehman were Tannery boom-boom lads. HOLLAND MARSH Mrs. William Horlings is a patient at York County Hospital Newmarket. Mr. and Mrs. Engelage and family, Montreal are visiting Mr. and Mrs. F. Engelage. Mr. Harry Horlings has been allowed to come home from York County Hospital where he has been a patient for several weeks. Mr. and Mrs. George Engelage and family were guests of Mr. and Mrs. John Eises, Grand Rapids, Mich., over the New Year holiday. Sutton Selects Civic Official Sutton.â€"A clerk-treasurer was chosen by Sutton Village council at a special meeting on Monday night. John Payne, 23, present deputy-clerk at Arnprior, Ont., was selected from 27 applicants. Applications for the positions left vacant by the resignations in December, of treasurer David Treloar and clerk Michael GilIan were received until the year's end following the insertion of ads in local and Metro papers asking for applicants. Of the number received, less than half a dozen had previous municipal experience to offer, and four were selected to be interviewed by the 1960 council. The result was the choice of Mr. Payne who is married and has two small children. The new clerk-treasurer hopes to commence his duties by March 1st at the latest. GEORGINA CHANGES MEETING SCHEDULE Pefferlaw. â€"-A new regular meeting time was chosen by the Georgina township council for 1960 at its inaugural meeting on Monday. Following the invocation by the Rev. R. B. Harrison, the council members, Reeve Robert E. Weir, Deputy-Reeve Clarence Blanchard, and Councillors Charles Cole, Alec Mercer and R. J. Woods were sworn in by Clerk R.A. Hankins. Regular business took place and one deputation was heard when Mrs. Scott Rennie appealed for financial help or trophies for the South Shore Music Festival. Mrs. Rennie is the Georgina township's schools' music teacher and a member of the festival committee. Council promised to look into the matter and to do its fair share in contributing to this cultural activity. A resolution was passed making the regular monthly meeting time 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday. Next regular meeting will fall on February 2. The by-law re the building inspector's working hours was approved by resolution to be amended to have Miller Harbinson, the building inspector, "on call from January 1st to March 18th in place of the hours stated on the by-law". Mr. Harbinson said he was doing "nothing during the hours he was previously in the office during these months and was called on at his home after hours. This new system was hoped to be more satisfactory all around.
