service vivian couple married sixty years saturday oct 14 was a very special oc casion for mr and mrs russell morden of vivian the wellknown and highlyrespected couple celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary a milestone achieved by very few mrs morden the former mary sheperd- son was born at claremont and attended public school there mr morden is a native of stouff- ville russell and mary were married oct 16 1912 they travelled by train to peterboro on their honeymoon trip mr and mrs morden have one son gordon of fevershan ont three daughters mrs alfreda lithgow of seaforth mrs thomas card vivian mrs harold kleinfe markham 12 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren telegrams of congratulations were received from prime minister pierre trudeau premier vvm davis john roberts mp yorksimcoe and wm hodgson mpp york north mrs cordelia paxton xady of the lake muss lake on thursday oct 12 1972 mrs mc paxton one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of musselmans lake passed peacefully away in her 97th year mrs paxton was born merab cordelia lloyd daughter of amos lloyd and elizabeth davis in king township april 15 1876 her paternal great grandfather thomas lloyd im migrated to penn sylvania from wales in 1690 to serve as a deputy under william penn in that early american settlement which aimed at civil and religious freedom for mankind the lloyds unable to accept the american republicanism after the declaration of independence left pennsylvania and thus mrs paxtons own grandfather took up residence on the 4th concession of king township york county in 1809 the family was of staunch quaker belief and they were partially responsible for set tlement of the kettleby and lloydstown areas as well as faithful supporters of the historic friends church on yonge street when open rebellion overtook upper canada in 1837 mrs paxtons forebearers were sympathetic to the cause of reform and laboured in co operation with william lyon mckenzie to rectify the injustices created by the family compact in york perhaps this early identification with the reform party ac counted for mrs paxtons sustained political interests through the years she was a keen participant in the liberal party and a personal acquaintance of for mer prime ministers sir wilfrid laurier and mckenzie king she possessed the ardent reformers spirit and fire that was kindled in more stirring times she was present on the platform with sir wilfrid laurier at a campaign picnic in aurora in 1895 a meeting which she retained to the last a vivid recollection she was extremely proud of her canadian heritage and so in terested in the country she loved that at the age of 91 she launched upon her own cen tennial project in 1967 writing the memoirs of ninety one years which record some interesting and in formative events in canadian history this well written document carried only one restriction it could not be published until she had made her departure on january 1 1896 cordelia lloyd married john c paxton who operated flour and feed mills in j j i 1 1 uxbridge and siloam he predeceased her in 1926 although she faced insurmountable family iusses in the untimely deaths of four of her children kathleen lloyd ruth and victor her profound faith courage and deter mination were her sources of strength with her death flickers out a light of life that was an example of humanity usefulness and uprightness she has bequeathed to her many friends and relatives a legacy of inspiration the late mrs paxton leaves two daughters annette clayton of islington and effie suggitt of north bay a grandson john and a great grandson mitchell funeral services officiated by rev hop of the christian church were con ducted from lows funeral home ux bridge on oct 14 with
