during the summer he also observed uiat some members seemed less than en thusiastic about attending and said the member appointed from ballantrae had never put in an ap pearance it puts us in a terrible position he said we cant go to council and complain thats not our place its up to the people in each area to petition council if they feel theyre not being properly represented admitting that nothing official could be done without a quorum the chairman said there were a number of things he felt should be discussed jim hill was present to submit his report on the summer recreation programs he reported that most activities were wellrun and he considered them successful while the playground program was not as popular as had been expected it was felt the girls had done a good job councillor betty van- nostrand asked mr hill how he had been received in the rural areas the recreation director said that everyone had been very cooperative many people had said we didnt need a recreation director said mrs vannostrand im glad there was no real problem several suggestions were made with a view to improving facilities now available problems with the lights for the tennis court and the question of equipment storage were discussed at length difficulty arose over the matter of a mileage allowance for the recreation director mr hill estimated he had travelled about 100 miles a week in the course of his duties while money for this purpose is provided in the budget no actual figure per mile was agreed upon again no decision could be made without a quorum and the matter was deferred forthcoming programs for the fall season were mentioned and a tentative date of sept 18 has been set for the start of these activities committee member ed grimshaw reported he was presently
