the july 22 issue of the tribune and signed by eleanor todd mrs todd states that reeve nesbitt is the only member of the present uxbridge township council who has ever changed his stand on the century city project so mr editor for the benefit of all the taxpayers in the township i would like to submit the following on august 24 1970 i submitted resolution no 242 which read as follows resolved that design for development toronto centred region should not act as a bar to the processing in the usual manner the plans for century city as presently proposed in size and population by virtue of the fact that these plans were predated to the an nouncement of design for development toronto centred region in response to this resolution all five members of council voted in favor of it including both councillors muirhead and higgins then on sept 9 1970 mr muirhead presented council with resolution no 247 asking council to authorize the town ship solicitor to prepare a brief on the century city project to be submitted to both the provincial government and the oshawa area planning and development study this brief was prepared and among many other things it contained the following 1 the transportation fa cilities in the area are excellent being serviced on two sides by railway one by the cnr and one by the cpr 2 the engineering plans of the developer include the establishment of a 3stage sewage disposal system which will be entirely feasible 3 what action can now be taken by the province to assist the township council in the approval of the century city project 4 what joint action will be required to successfully launch this project 5 the time table if any which the province considers most ap plicable to the century city undertaking after the above- mentioned brief was received by council it was given serious study and con sideration and finally under the authority of resolution no 278 which was written by councillor muirhead the reeve and clerk were authorized to sign it and to send copies to both the provincial govern- monica 1547 black simki last 1425 heels 138 aa 6toll d fine footwear for the entire family lehmans shoes 9 mnin west stouftville 6403753 open me right i am sure that it does i believe that councillor higgins also voted in favor of it i think from these facts which are recorded in the township office it will be perfectly clear to all concerned that mrs todd is wrong when she states that the reeve is the only member of council to change his thinking on this matter george w harvie rri goodwood i york region village in the valley has advanced one step closer to reality york regional council at a meeting july 29 supported a planning report which recommended ap proval of the sub division plan subject to a number of con ditions most important of these conditions were those dealing with water and sewage facilities and land for educational purposes the subdivider is presently discussing these matters with the appropriate auth orities there are several further steps to take before everything is cleared up the town of markham must pass a bylaw to change zoning which requires approval from the ontario municipal board at regional council aurora mayor dick illingworth objected strongly to a clause in the report which would delay matters until the board of education has secured school sites mayor illingworth also questioned the board of educations estimate that an ad ditional 745 pupil places would be required at a capital cost of more than a million and a half dollars he pointed out that last year only 108 new places were needed by the board they cant be serious he said referring to the 745 estimate why should we believe these figures for one sub division mayor illingworth moved an amend ment which would place a time limit on the board thus avoiding delay region solicitor ed ward oakes however explained that the developer could go to the municipal board if he felt matters were not being handled expeditiously the motion to amend was withdrawn by mayor illingworth and council approved the report as originally submitted mr and mrs ron arends formerly of dicksons hill are welcomed residents to
