farmers held their annual picnic on friday evening july 20th at geneva park kedron a picnic lunch commencing at 730 pm was enjoyed by a good turnout of junior farmers prior to the lunoh several of the mem bers availed themselves of the op portunity to go swimming in the cool waters of the pool following the lunch the boys and girls en joyed a ball game commenoing at 900 pm a dance was held which attracted addition al junior farmers who had been unable to attend the earlier pro ceedings the fox trots tag dances and square dances were enjoyed by all and everyone felt that it had been an enjoyable and worth while occasion the picnic was arranged by the members of the county junior farmer executive and final ar rangements were looked after by the members of the brooklin jr farmers bethesda bethesda womens institute will hold their picnic on monday evening july 30th in ratcliffs park supper is from 6 to 7 oclock this invitation is extended to all in the community the wms will cattle eleven others may perish seven head of cattle have died on a farm near wiarton in the last few days victims of what police call deliberate poisoning police said they believed it is a case of malicious spite against david ottewell who has had 18 of his 23 cattle and six calves pois oned seven dying police believed the poison to be some kind of commercial- pest- killer but have been unable to es tablish a particular brand the loss to ottewell a longtime farmer at wiarton about 20 miles west of owen sound has been es timated at about 2300 eleven head still are ill from the poison the first three cattle were found dead from poisoning in a field on july 11 the following day a paper bag- containing the poison was found on the 53yearold farmers land ottewell watched the seventh cow die thursday but despite an tidotes and stimulants administered by veterinarian dr c h hyatt of wiarton little hope is held for the remaining cattle poisoned cattle are not allowed to be sold for butchering although some can be used by fertilizer manufacturers most of ottewells however have been buried or burned so far none of the farmers sucking calves in the death field have died the poison first causes the ani mal to lose control of itself and act drunk it then wastes away in pro longed agony the criminal investigation branch of the ontario provincial police is investigating the
