Halton Regional Police Service Sgt. Brian Lowe said the incident took place at around 2:40 p.m. when the man, who worked as a transport truck driver, arrived at the future site of the new Oakville Transit Facility with a load of steel trusses. While the trusses were being offloaded from the vehicle with a forklift, the load on the trailer shifted and fell off the trailer and onto the victim, said Lowe. EMS, fire and police attended. Employees assisted with extricat- ing the man from the steel truss- es that were on top of his body. He was later transported to Oakville Trafalgar Hospital where he suc- cumbed to his injuries. The Ministry of Labour has been contacted and is investigat- ing this incident. Police are not releasing the name of the victim. The preview saw event organizers, friends and family jump in the chilly waters of Lake Ontario before warming up in a hot tub. By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF It takes a lot of courage to jump into Lake Ontario on a cold winter day for charity, and Oakvilles Courage Brothers definitely have a lot of it. After a quarter century of doing it each year and helping to raise $660,000 for water projects around the world, they are going for number 26 this year. What wed like to say is come on in, the waters fine, said Trent Courage at the annual preview for the Jan. 1 Courage Brothers Polar Bear Dip on CITY-TV with Jennifer Valentyne. The preview took place Tuesday, Dec. 21 morn- ing in Coronation Park with a number of TV crews and support people present. Trent, his brother Todd, Valentyne and sever- al other people jumped in the lake that morning and then warmed up in a pair of hot tubs. The water was plus three degrees today and (the air) was minus seven when we went in and Courage brothers say the water is fine See Polar page 9 A School Like No Other Preschool - Grade 8 905-257-0022 www.fernhillschool.com
