Oakvilles Luise Rosa Lina Pirwitz doesnt have to look far as it is also her birthday and especially so Dec. 31 just past as she turned 100 years young. You may have heard the hollers as Oma Luises family threw her a sur- prise birthday party at the Holiday Inn, Oakville Centre. Luises children were there, Peter, 74, Marianne, 63, and Manfred, 71. Manfred is an artist who created The Terry Fox Monument located outside Thunder Bay, Ontario where Fox had to stop his Marathon of Hope upon learning cancer, that had taken his leg, had moved into this lungs. Manfred also created the bronze statue, A Moment of Trust, that is on display at the Oakville Town Hall at 1225 Trafalgar Rd. While Manfred has now moved from Oakville to Cambridge, his mom still calls Oakville home. Shes a spunky gal, keen of mind, said Helmut Sems, Pirwitzs son-in-law who lives in Ohio, but who was involved in planning the 100th birthday party and was sure to be in town for it. It was kept a surprise, said Sems, Luise thought only that she was going out for dinner. Luise was born in Berlin on New Years Eve 1910. Its her actual birthday, said Sems. Luise was an orphan and was raised with her sister in Berlin before coming to Toronto in 1952. Her hus- band, Gerhard, died in 1984 in a swimming accident. The couple had married in the late 1960s and moved to Oakville in the early 1970s. Today, Luise has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
