By Angela Blackburn OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Is your house on fire, Clark? No, Aunt Bethany, those are the Christmas lights. Christmas Vacation 1989 Theres a new music box complete with Christmas lights in town except its a house. Everyone is invited to the McCombe fam- ily home in northeast Oakville to take in a show of Christmas lights nearly 4,000 when theyre in full peak that illuminate the home in time to Christmas music to make for a nightly Christmas concert. Its the second year that the family, whose home is at 2124 Granby Dr., has lit up the place for Christmas. Theyve added a holiday touch, too. It is a display we have begun putting on consisting of popular music synchronized with our Christmas lights at our family home on Granby Drive, said Ian McCombe in an e-mail. The Christmas light and music show begins each evening at 8 p.m. It lasts about 35 minutes and includes a selection of 13 songs. The music ranges from the classical as well as a Christmas Vacation tribute, to hol- iday selections from Boney M, The Muppets, Brenda Lee and Michael Bubl Non-perishable food donations are accepted for Oakvilles Fareshare food bank. After seeing similar videos on the Internet for years, it was something that I had always joked about doing to our own house one day, confessed McCombe. Early last year, I had discussed the idea again with my parents and decided that I would finally get the chance to try it. My father unfortunately passed away not too long after that, but we continued on and put on our first show last year. I did it partly as a tribute, partly as a way to spread a bit of Christmas spirit in our own unique way and partly because as an engineer I love a good challenge, said McCombe. So, the show goes on in memory of Rick McCombe. 15 W ednesday , D ecem ber 15, 2010 O A KVILLE BEA V ER w w w .o akvillebeaver .co m Nightly Christmas concert on Granby Drive IN THE SPIRIT: Ian McCombe and his mom, Marg McCombe, have a Christmas show of lights and music at their 2124 Grandy Dr. home.
