RIZIERO VERTOLLI / OAKVILLE BEAVER Oakville residents have a chance to be Santa Claus to about 1,500 Halton Region senior resi- dents this Christmas holiday sea- son. Home Instead Senior Care recently launched its Be a Santa to a Senior campaign across Canada. The program collects gift dona- tions from the public and distrib- utes them to seniors living alone. Home Instead Senior Care, a provider of home care and com- panionship to seniors, hopes to distribute 1,500 gifts in Halton and 6,500 in the Greater Toronto Area. The organization has partnered with local retailers, non-profit agencies and volunteers in the communities it serves. Local partners, this year, include St. Mildreds-Lightbourn School, Shoppers Home Health, Royal LePage, CIBC, Walmart and Zellers. To support the program people can visit a participating business, which can be found at www.beas- antatoasenior.ca, then head over to the store or businesss Christmas tree and remove an ornament with a gift idea printed on the back. After that, one must purchase the gift and return it and the orna- ment to the participating business. That gift will then be delivered to an area senior resident. Seniors in the program have created a wish list that will deter- mine the gifts they receive. Home Instead Senior Care staff and volunteers will wrap the pres- ents.
