Bantam Rangers win Chicago Fall Classic By Jon Kuiperij BEAVER SPORTS EDITOR When two teams are as evenly matched as the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders and Iroquois Ridge Trailblazers junior girls basketball teams, whoever wants it more often makes the difference. That may have been the deter- mining factor in yesterdays (Wednesdays) Halton Tier 2 final at Sheridan College, a matchup between squads that both went 9-1 during the regular season. Aquinas built an 18-6 halftime lead and then held on for a 37-24 victory over the Trailblazers, who eliminated the Raiders in last years regional semi- finals. We thought it would be a really close game, but we ended up want- ing it more than they did, said Aquinas player Kayla Celestini, the games top scorer with 19 points. Iroquois Ridge coach Al Samsa agreed. We didnt have the intensity at all, he said. Thats my fault. I need to have them ready to play in a big game.
