Staples will be a keynote speaker at a free public forum on Friday, Nov. 12 at 7:30 p.m. in the Oakville Room at Oakville Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. Canada does not need flying Cadillacs to provide security to Canada and North America. The government, air force and defence compa- nies have made it clear why they want them, but not why Canada needs them, or why Canadians should pay for them, said Staples in a recent article in Embassymag.ca. This free public forum is organized by the Oakville Community Centre for Peace, Ecology and Human Rights. For more information, visit www.oakvillepeacecentre.org. Ceasefire.ca founder speaks at Nov. 12 forum Environmental defender and author Rick Smith of Environmental Defence will speak in Oakville on Thursday, Nov. 25. A few years ago, Smith made public a study of the dangerous chemicals found in the bodies of promi- nent Canadians and he has co-authored a new book Slow Death by Rubber Duck: How the Toxic Chemistry of Everyday Life Affects Our Health. As executive director of Environmental Defence, Smith leads an organization that is constantly making headlines and pushing politicians to get serious about the human health impacts of environmental pollu- tion. On Nov. 25, Oakvillegreen Conservation Association will host Smith at a special event to cele- brate its 10th anniversary. Everyone is invited to this free public event in the Atrium at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Rd. at 7:30 p.m. For more information on Oakvillegreen, visit www.oakvillegreen.org.
