Its all part of Crime Stoppers semi-annu- al Jail & Bail fundraising initiative on Friday, Nov. 12 at the Hopedale Mall, 1515 Rebecca St. The event is from 11- 6 p.m. and is expect- ed to create interest in the community as well as raising money to assist Haltons Crime Stoppers program. Cal Millar, Chair of Halton Crime Stoppers, said its hoped a number of local politicians and business people will volunteer as jailbirds and collect bail on behalf of the crime fighting program. They are joined this year by the Optimist Club of Oakville. Crime Stoppers pays rewards of up to $2,000 for information that leads to an arrest. Halton Crime Stoppers already has a com- mitment from several volunteer jailbirds to spend time in the make-shift holding pen that will be set up in the centre court of the 300,000 square foot mall. Halton Crime Stoppers needs volunteer jailbirds Oakville Trafalgar High School (OTHS) and Appleby College have announced they are taking part in a national vigil of remem- brance for Canadas First World War dead. The week-long vigil of remembrance begins Thursday, Nov. 4, and will see the Oakville schools, in co-ordination with nearly 150 other Canadian schools, project the names of the 68,000 Canadian soldiers, sailors, airmen, nurses, doctors and mer- chant seamen who died during the First World War. At OTHS, the list of names will periodi- cally freeze and an image will appear of one of the 3,600 cemeteries where Canadas war dead are buried. The Library Seminar Room at OTHS has also been arranged to reflect a day during the First World War. Attestation papers, images, poems, musical selections and other relevant First World War research documents prepared by the Grade 10 history classes will be on dis- play. The vigil at OTHS will be open for public viewing on weekdays starting Thursday, Nov. 4, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. It can also be viewed on Sunday, Nov. 7, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The public is also welcome to attend the OTHS closing ceremony to the vigil, which will run from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. The Appleby College vigil will run until Thursday, Nov. 11.
