Im just a 14 year old, and yet somewhere some- one I havent met is risking their life so that I may have freedom, so that I may have a better chance at life than they did. Thinking of the courage, and love put into soldiers actions makes me speech- less. Why and how could someone be so unselfish as to put their life on the line when they dont even have to? Questions like this always come up during this time of the year, as each day we get closer to the one day we express our love and appreciation for Canadian soldiers, and soldiers around the world: Remembrance Day. When they spend a great deal of their lives in battle, a couple minutes of silence seems such an easy task. It always bugs me when that one person in the crowd cant really focus when all they have to do is be quiet for about 60 sec- onds. However, every year when I do spot that one person, I remind myself that somewhere someone is fighting for me, and would they be pleased if they knew I was using my life (which they are fight- ing for) to yell at people? I can imagine they would wonder if there was even a purpose. Because of this, every year I am reminded to live a life that not only I can be proud of, but that the soldiers fight- ing for me can be proud of as well. Because of their loyalty, duty and bravery, Canadian soldiers fight for us; we dont all know each other, but we all have one thing in common we are proud to be Canadians. Their immense sacrifices make me Soldiers commitment leaves student speechless you up dont they? Sometimes, you think about them so much that life just cant squeeze itself in there. Now I want you to imagine something can you even begin to think about that person being gone? Can you even imagine how big the gap would be, from where they used to be and where they arent anymore? The ones we love make up our lives; they are the building blocks of all that we do, say or feel. Every year, we recognize the holes that have been placed without choice, in many peoples lives. These people are strong, and they are just as much of fighters as one could ever be. Surrounded by the country their loved one fought for, life isnt always easy; dont forget the battle they have every day. So this Nov. 11, when the voices around you die down, and slowly every head is bowed, please think of that one soldier and his/ her loved ones. Think of where they are and what they are doing, and live your life accordingly; because remember, they are fighting for you, please dont let their noble actions go unnoticed. Remember them. Dig In Sunday Dig In: Food, Art and Community Action in Oakvile will be an afternoon roundtable bringing together a variety of speakers to discuss the history of local agriculture, and current efforts toward local sustainable food production .
