Do you belong to an organi- zation engaged in arts, culture or heritage activities in Halton Hills? Do you own or manage a school, a business or a venue that supports local artistic activity? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then we want to hear from you! We are the mem- bers of the Advocacy Committee for an Arts, Culture & Heritage Action Plan for Halton Hills. This ad hoc committee was formed in June to respond to a rec- ommendation in the draft Recreation & Parks Strategic Action Plan. Presented in late spring of this year, the Plan advised the Town to under- take an Arts & Culture Strategic Action Plan. On Monday (October 29), the Advocacy Committee will be making a presentation to Halton Hills town council that supports the idea of an Arts, Culture & Heritage Action Plan for Halton Hills. Anybody interested in the cultur- al life of Halton Hills are urged to attend the council meeting, which begins at 6:30 p.m. In anticipation of this presenta- tion, the group has been gathering, since June, information about local arts, culture and heritage activity. This research has generated concrete statistics that illustrate the current breadth and depth of cultural activi- ty in Halton Hills. However, if any individual, group or business has not yet been included sent an e-mail to ACHP_Halton_Hills@yahoo.ca or leave a phone message at the BIA office: 905-873-4970. Performers, artists asked to support cultural lobby Banish the grey November skies with an explosion of colour and texture at Stitches and Chains: The Art of Knitting and Crocheting. Halton Hands in Motion Knitting and Crocheting Guild hosts a display of deco- rative and functional items in the Gallery of the Halton Hills Cultural Centre, 9 Church St., from October 30 to November 11. Access to the Gallery is free and is open during regular library hours. This year Guild members were chal- lenged to push the boundaries of knitting and crocheting by using unconventional materials, techniques, and/or subject mat- ter in their creations. Lots of surprises here from do-knits and vegetables to knit- ted aquariums! Once again the Guild will be raffling several knitted and crocheted prizes to raise money for breast cancer research. Two previous shows have raised more than $4,000 for breast cancer research. Fibre exhibit pushes the boundaries
