It was pretty easy for us as players to come to the rink because we were always well taken care of and there were always great players around us, he said. Ron Faulkner Faulkner was recog- nized for his many years of support of local hockey with the Jack Harrison Award in 1984 and then with the Georgetown Raiders Award in 1985 as vice president. When Faulkner introduced himself to team president Bob Hooper at a game in 1976 asking how he could help out, Faulkner didnt realize what hed taken on. Booster club presi- dent, fund-raiser, running dances and tournaments were thankless tasks that most Raider volunteers carried out proud- ly as members of the organization. Jack Handy Handys first exposure to the Raiders was as a spectator at Memorial Arena and he then went on to work extensively on both the promotional side and with the on- ice product. His dedication to the midget girls soft- ball Royalettes in the 1970s switched to the Raider executive as he held such positions as vice president of hockey operations and general manager. He returned to front-office tasks in 1980, working the gate admission and drafting newspaper ads in 1980, cul- minating with the Hardy Cup triumph in 1981-82. Al Walker Few Georgetown residents can claim involvement with two of the biggest accomplishments in Raider history and Al Walker was on board for both the OHA Jr. C championship in the 1960s and the Hardy Cup Canadian intermediate A title a quarter-century ago. Starting off as the stick/water boy for the intermediates as a teen, Walker was the trainer/equipment manager with that first-ever Georgetown junior provincial win- ner. He later came back to do promotion- al work for the inter- mediate Raiders in the 70s and was a key part of the executive for the Hardy Cup championship run. Don Olson For over 30 years, Don Olson has had a hand in supporting hockey at all levels in town, from selling souvenirs and clothing during the intermediates glory days to running the popular Spirit Room during the 2005 Dudley Hewitt Cup. Olson was one of the ubiquitous Booster Club staffers who helped generate so much revenue for the Raiders while also selling program adver- tising during the 1980s. His sporting involvement can be traced to the Hockey Heritage Awards selection committee, the International Bantam Tournament, the senior Raiders, Jr. A Future Stars games, oldtimers tourneys and the twinning of the Mold-Masters SportsPlex.
