These include have bone, ivory, human teeth, wood, gold, silver, porclein, vulcanite and variety of plastics. Some materials could only be carved to shape. Others were crude fitting casting to which strips of whale bone or springs were attached in an effort to hold them in place. The most famous set of dentures of this latter type were worn by George Washington. VULCANITE When Charles Goodyear invented vulcanite in the 1840's it was a great step forward in obtaining a degree of fit not before possible. In decades past, dentures wearers have had to persevere with denture bases and teeth of a very simple nature. But science's ever increasing control over the elements involved in denture construction, the art has not only become more precise and durable but has also been allowed to broaden its scope and imagination. COMPLEXIONS AND PERSONALITIES Through the advances of science the expanding technology of denture manufacturers is practically boundless. With stable base materials available, the tooth manufacturers have concentrated on creating porclien and plastic teeth to match not only every complexion but every personality too. From the active and outgoing male to the soft and delicate female, every type of personality has been considered and incorporated into the individual plastic and porclien teeth available to Canadians today. It is now possible for denture specialists to construct a finer and more uniquely personal product than ever before.
