Country charm Independent & Free Press, Wednesday, September 12, 2007 11 Five candidates either offi- cially or unofficially have indi- cated they will be seeking to rep- resent the new riding of Wellington-Halton Hills in the Oct. 10 provincial election. Ontarios electoral boundaries were modified in 2004 to match federal boundaries. Halton Hills, which previously was part of the riding of Halton, has now joined with Wellington County to form the new riding that also encom- passes Fergus, Erin, Hillsburgh, Rockwood and other small com- munities in the former riding of Waterloo-Wellington. Conservative candidate Ted Arnott, who held the Waterloo- Wellington seat since 1990, is seeking re-election in the new riding. A Fergus resident, Arnott worked for three years as an executive assistant to former Wellington MPP Jack Johnson. He was acclaimed as the Tory candidate earlier this summer. Marg Bentley, a longtime Georgetown resident and former teacher at Georgetown District High School for 32 years is run- ning for the Liberal party. She was acclaimed at a nomination meeting last week. Although no official an- nouncement has been made, The Independent & Free Press has learned three other candidates will also vie for the seat. Noel Duignan, of George- town, will carry the banner for the New Democratic Party after being acclaimed at a meeting ear- lier this week. Duignan was the MPP for Halton North from 1990-1995 and has twice unsuccessfully sought the federal Wellington- Halton Hills seat. Martin Lavictoire of Rock- wood will represent the Green Party. He has no political experi- ence but has helped out on Green campaigns in the past. The City of Guelph employee was acclaimed at a nomination meet- ing Monday night. Giuseppe Gori of George- town is the leader of the Family Coalition Party of Ontario and will run in Wellington-Halton Hills. Gori is listed on the partys website as the candidate for Wellington-Halton Hills. Gori has extensive experience in the computer industry and has held several technical positions with IBM, Canada Systems Group and GEAC Computers, developing communication soft- ware, before starting his own consulting company, Gori Canada Diffusion, Inc.
