Suddenly stricken while doing the farm chores on Saturday evening, Marcus O. Nelson, South Grimsby township, passed away a few hours later without regaining consciousness. Mr. Nelson was born in Gainsborough in 1874, a son of the late Richard and Annie Nelson. He was a gold medalist at Toronto Normal School, a graduate of Queen's University and a specialist in English and history. He taught in public and high schools for several years and was a school inspector in the province of Alberta for 22 years. Retiring in 1927, he returned to this district and took up farming. He was a member of Smithville United Church.

Surviving, besides his wife, the former Jane Almeda Cartwright, of Smithville, are three sons - Wing-Cmdr. R.C. Nelson, medical officer with the R.A.F. in Egypt; Lieut. F.C. Nelson, R.C.A., in Canada; Meredith Nelson, industrial engineer at Flint, Mich.; and a brother, Orland Nelson of Caistor. Funeral was held from the Merritt funeral home, Smithville, on Tuesday afternoon.
