By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Though it can be frustrating to haveyour favourite television show inter-rupted by commercials, an Oakville actor has helped ease the disruption with his comedy. Christian Potenza is easily recognizable as the toothbrush guy in the Listerine com- mercials and the guy with a sore throat unable to yell fore after driving a golf ball on the links. However, the 30-second clips are only a glimmer of his work and talents. Now the long-time Oakville resident has stepped up to a new role as actor, comedian, producer and, most of all, an advocate for bringing the film industry to Oakville. I film a lot in Etobicoke and Hamilton and Oakville is right in between those places, the 37-year-old said. Id like to get more filming done here in Oakville and Im going to push for more of it to happen. Potenza was speaking to the Oakville Beaver recently at an Oakville film shoot location for a movie hes producing, titled Moon Point. Potenza has a small on-screen role in the Ontario road-trip film as the villain named Ricky. However, after he signed on as pro- ducer and as actor on the Mythic Productions film, he stipulated that all his parts would be filmed in Oakville. The production has gone around the GTA and went farther away from Toronto to places such as Orillia and Barrie. On Oct. 14, the production came to Oakville to shoot at three locations. One was a home owned by Potenzas friends and neighbours, another a Dundas Street/Trafalgar Road hamburger restaurant and lastly, a downtown Oakville laundromat. The film is about a young man, a sort of loser, who is picked on by his friends for not doing much. However, the man, Darryl, played by Nick McKinlay, sees a commercial about a movie that stars a girl he fell in love with when he was in Grade 9. He learns that the film is being shot only two hours north of his southern Ontario town and enlists his friend Femur, played by Kyle Mac, to travel with him. Femur is in a motorized wheelchair and they attach a wagon to the chair and head north in hopes of finding the girl. Along the way, all sorts of wacky adven- tures take place. The other title role in the film is Paula Brancati, who plays Kristin, a girl who joins OAKVILLES MUSIC STORE 21 W ednesday , O ctober 27, 2010 O A KVILLE BEA V ER w w w .o akvillebeaver .co m Artscene Toothbrush guy shining in Moon Point NIKKI WESLEY / OAKVILLE BEAVER MAKING A POINT: Actor Christian Potenza (right) playing Ricky throttles Nick McKinlay play- ing Darryl in Ricky's home on the set of a new movie, Moon Point.
