Last weekends final of the Willowdale Red Wings girls hock- ey tournament was an emotional roller coaster for the Oakville ban- tam BB Hornets. Oakville carried a 1-0 lead into the final minute of regulation, only to see the Mississauga Chiefs tie the game with 16 seconds left on the clock. However, the Hornets rebounded in the shootout as Hailey Saxton stopped all three Mississauga shooters and Tegan Duncan scored the winner for Oakville. The Hornets won all four of their games in the preliminary round to earn a berth in the cham- pionship game. Novice A Rangers enjoy memorable trip to Pittsburgh Winning the championship was only one of the highlights for the Oakville novice A Rangers at a recent tournament in Pittsburgh. Oakville, which won all of its games at the tournament, also enjoyed a private practice and autograph session with members of the Pittsburgh Penguins, including Sidney Crosby. The Rangers clinched the tournament gold with a 9-6 win over a Pittsburgh squad in the final. Members of the Rangers are Ethan Abramovich, Jacob Caravaggio, Matthew Dybka, Tyler Ford, Riley Horton, Owen Kennedy, Josh Labelle, Nick Legaspi, Dawson Maloney, Tyler McLeish, Aidan OSullivan, James Passafiume, Christian Pelley, Josh Platt, Kole Schledewitz, Matthew Thompson and Kyle Truffen. Silver at Oshawa Lady Generals tournament for atom A Hornets The Oakville atom A Hornets won their first three games and went on to earn silver at the Oshawa Lady Generals Fall Classic tour- nament. Oakvilles only loss at the tournament came in the final, a 2-1 overtime loss to the North Bay Ice Boltz. North Bay scored the winner while on the power play.
