Bobesich, 24, has joined the race for the Ward 2 coun- cillors seat, squaring off against five other candidates in a contest, which due to the withdrawal of Fred Oliver, no longer has an existing coun- cillor running. Bobesich, a senior account executive with a firm in Toronto, said he is running for office because he believes he can change things for the bet- ter and feels he can bring a fresh perspective and way of doing things to Town Hall. I really think the ward needs change, he said. I think we need a new voice. Bobesich has degrees from McMaster University in com- munications and multimedia and has a post graduate degree from Sheridan College in human resources. These degrees will aid him in being a better councillor, he said. A graduate of Appleby College, Bobesich has lived in Ward 2 all his life and has been very vocal at Town Hall meet- ings involving important Ward 2 issues, such as the redevelopment of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School and the redevelop- ment of the DND lands. While Bobesich said he intends to spend much of his time on the campaign trail knocking on doors and asking residents what they would like to see happen in their ward, he also said he has some very definite ideas regarding changes hed like to see. I think the ward needs simple things like more trees. Im and avid walker and I also drive around the ward a lot to see whats going on. I find that there are a lot of trees missing and I really think we need to start bringing trees back into the ward, said Bobesich. I think we also need to eliminate of the red tape involved in building permits and things of that nature. Even at our personal place of residence we did a renovation and it just dragged on because of the red tape and the backlog that the Town currently has. Bobesich said he is opposed to tax increases and would never vote to support a tax increase of any kind. He is also calling for a halt to out-of-control development stating he feels the town is developing far too quickly. We really need to keep the town in Town of Oakville, he said. Above all Bobesich said he would offer Ward 2 a fresh start at Town Hall and a coun- cillor who is willing to listen. I have no past, no skele- tons in my closet, no connec- tions with people. Im really just kind of my own person so I do what I think is best, he said. I want to know what is best so in a couple weeks I will be going door to door and ask- ing people what they want because really I dont know what people want. They know what they want and I will do my best to implement what they want. Bobesich can be reached at 905-808-9402 or email him at ward2oakville@hotmail.com.
