The animal's identification tags led to the iden- tity of the boat's owner, who has been miss- ing since sailing from Oakville on Wednesday. Police say the cat was returned to the man's wife. Halton police Staff Sergeant Anthony Odoardi said the Coast Guard notified police about a boat in distress near Fifty Point Conservation Area just before 4 p.m. Thursday. The vessel was found to be largely under- water with only the cabin roof and some short masts and radio gear protruding above the waves. Given the fragile state of the water-filled boat and the chance it could sink complete- ly, it was decided to tow it to the shallow harbour. Meanwhile, police searched the area where the yacht was recovered for anyone who might have been on the boat. This effort was called off about 8:30 p.m. by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre-Coast Guard due to weather and darkness. An investigation is also under way to find out why the boat became submerged. Some passing boaters at the scene remarked that the waves Wednesday night were not high or strong enough to overtake the boat. The still partially submerged boat remains at Port Dalhousie. Anyone with information is asked to call the on-duty Staff Sergeant of the Halton police, Oakville, at 905-825-4747, ext. 2210. Cat found in partially submerged boat Continued from page 1
