OPENING NOVEMBER 1ST! w w w . o a kv ill eb ea ve r.c o m O A KV IL LE B EA V ER Th ur sd ay , O ct ob er 2 8, 2 01 0 1 8 Loyola issues challenge Last years Best School Float & OverallGrand Prize winner, Loyola, is back againto challenge Oakvilles other high schools in the category of Best School Float. This is a great chance for schools throughout Oakville to showcase their school spirit and cre- ativity by participating in their community. So far, there are only two other schools taking part and they are looking for some solid competition. I have greatly enjoyed being part of the Oakville Santa Claus Parade on my own school float; it is a wonderful way to spread Christmas cheer and to show the town of Oakville what my school is made of, said Jessica Allingham, Loyola student and the parades official school liaison. Christmas is my favourite time of year and being part of the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a perfect way to start the Christmas season, said Allingham. Questions about the school challenge can be directed to Allingham at schools@oakvillesantaclausparade.ca. Once again, Loyola would like to challenge other Oakville schools to join them in creating their own school float. The winning school will receive an award that can be displayed in its awards case for the year, along with a group photo plaque to last for years to come. Check out the website for tips on how to build your school float. There is also a timeline for guidance on timing for your float. School bands are welcomed to participate in the parade as well. School entries can include a small band on their float or have their marching band play the streets of Downtown Oakville. Entry forms for the Oakville Santa Claus Parade are now available online. Entries are already coming in for this year's parade. Remember, the deadline for entries is the first 50 entries received, or today (Oct. 28), whichever comes first. Now in its 62nd year, the Oakville Santa Claus Parade is a cherished tradition in our town. The 2010 Parade takes place Saturday, Nov. 20, begin- ning at 9 am. This years parade will begin at Lakeshore Road and Reynolds Street, go west on Lakeshore to Kerr Street, north on Kerr and end at Kerr and Stewart streets. The Santa Claus Parade is always looking for volunteers to assist on Parade Day to ensure the Parade runs smoothly. Information about the various volunteer opportunities can be found online. For entry forms and information on the School Challenge or volunteering with the Parade, visit www.oakvillesantaclausparade.ca or leave a message at 905-815-5981.
