In total 4,253 people took advantage of Oakvilles Advance Polls, which opened Tuesday, Oct. 5. While the votes have been cast, the results will not be revealed until Election Day on Monday. This years Advance Poll totals are significantly high- er than those of 2006 with those Advance Polls attract- ing 3,000 early votes. However, there were far fewer eligible voters in Oakville in 2006 with the total reaching 112,458. There are 121,330 eligible Oakville voters this year. It should also be pointed out the 2006 Advanced Polls lasted for 11 days while this years Advanced Polls lasted for 10 days. On Election Day, polls open at 10 a.m. and close at 8 p.m. High turnout at advance polls Halton Healthcare officials said the cornerstone of the new hospital will be its Patient Care Centre with medical and surgical inpatient nursing units designed to support leading practices. They also said, the new Oakville hospital will greatly enhance the patient experience and provide a benchmark for new hospital design. The need for a new hospital in Oakville has been well established, as Oakville is located in the fastest growing region in South ern Ontario and has a burgeoning population. Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) has outgrown its current location and no longer has sufficient room to expand. The $60 million the OTF must contribute is only a portion of the local share needed to create the new Oakville hospital. Hospital revenues must pro- vide another $270 million while the Town of Oakville must provide $200 million. This $200 million from the Town has been divided into a pay- ment schedule that will see $130 million paid in 2015 when the hospital is completed, another $40 million will be paid over the next 30 years to cover the hospi- tals lifecycle costs and $30 million will be paid at the time of the pro- jects financial close, but only if it is seen as necessary by the council of the day. Donor goal is $60 million Continued from page 1
