The up-and-coming pop-country singer and Bishop Reding Catholic Secondary School student will sing at the event taking place Friday, Nov. 5. The young singer reached the finals of the Western Fall Fair in 2006, sang at the Niagara Falls Blues in the Park festivals the past two years and has won several talent contests. She will also debut a new song she composed with her sister, Amie Quinless. The event will take place at the Oakville Conference and Banquet Centre. The keynote speaker will be David Bereit, the national campaign director and founder of the 40 Days for Life prayer vigils. He will describe how more than 350,000 people have participated in the vigils at abortion facilities across the U.S.A. and Canada. As a result of these peaceful vigils, more than 3,000 women have changed their minds about having abortions they had intended to have, 35 abortion workers have quit their jobs at the clinics, and five abortion facilities have completely closed down. The Halton Pro-Life executive director Tom Kelly will also outline the organiza- tions plans for 2010 and 2011. The conference centre is located at 2515 Wyecroft Rd. Reception starts at 6 p.m. and the dinner begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $75 and must be purchased in advance. For more information and tickets, visit www.haltonprolife.com. Halton police say the results of a recent national campaign, aimed at making Canadas streets the safest in the world, have shown that some residents are still driving far too dangerously. Operation Impact, which took place over the Thanksgiving weekend, saw an increased police pres- ence on Canadas roads in an effort to avert the many traffic accidents that normally take place over holiday weekends. Educating the public in safe driving practices was the focus of the project and concentrated on drinking and driving, seatbelt use and all aspects related to aggressive driving. From Oct. 8-11, Halton police pulled numerous vehicles over in Oakville with two people slapped with impaired driving charges, 24 vehicles pulled over for seatbelt violations and 89 vehicles pulled over for rea- sons related to aggressive driving such as speeding and moving violations. Traffic education and enforcement are one of the top policing priorities for the Halton Regional Police Service and officers encourage the public to do their part to keep Halton roads safe for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists alike.
