She creates an environment where students are inspired to grow, stretch, achieve and realize their dreams. Jane makes a difference in hun- dreds of young female lives and is always looking for opportunities to help others and to give back to the Oakville community. Her service includes the Community Service Project in Peru; Creation of Girls Run for the Cure a fundraising event co-ordi- nated with the Run for the Cure; as a canvasser for several organizations including March of Dimes; member of the Gala Committee, Oakville- Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) and she is currently chair of the board of Halton Womens Place. Giving back is something that comes naturally to Jane and it is also something that she fosters in her students and faculty. Jane truly embodies the ATHENA tenets and spirit. She is a most accomplished leader, educator and mentor. Lorraine Greene Throughout Lorraine Greens professional and volunteer career she has been an inspirational leader who inspires by example. After successive promotions into leadership positions with the Royal Bank, during a time when women were less likely to assume leadership roles, she went on to found and operate Lorraines Pantry, an award-winning cater- ing business. Her new career initiative is running a cooking school. This grandmother of five who has always been involved in volunteer initiatives, now devotes much of her time to fundraising, education and advocacy for oomama, part of the Grandmother-to-Grandmother Campaign of the Stephen Lewis Foundation. Lorraine has been described as a trusted advisor, a resilient and dedi- cated leader with exceptional organization and communication skills. She is a role model for women who want to combine a professional career and love of community and family to build service-based organi- zations that give back. Catherine Bobesich Catherine is a four-time Athena nominee. She is a cancer survivor, a fierce womens advocate, commu- nity activist, wellness guru, suc- cessful entrepreneur and on top of all that a wife and mother of two. She is a proven leader as demonstrated through her years of involvement with the Zonta Club of Oakville. Catherine has mentored Zonta presidents and board members enabling the club to flourish on both a national and international scale. Catherine is devoted to giving back to the community and is involved with various groups: Wellspring, Look Good Feel Good, Cancer Society, several school associations and has mentored female high-school stu- dents. Catherines extraordinary passion for others is truly inspiring. Cathy Benbow Plewes Cathy has led by example for her entire life. She has achieved and modeled a healthy work life balance that is an inspiration to the women she works with, her friends and her family. She faces adversity with integri- ty, tenacity and good humour. Her leadership style and prob- lem-solving skills are unique and effective. She co-ordinates her skills and the talents of those involved to allow everyone an opportunity to share in the process. This results in solutions that are embraced by all. The gala, the final of ATHENA Oakville will see four nominees honoured, one winner chosen and tribute paid to the people involved with ATHENA Oakville over its 13 years. An ATHENA Oakville Legacy Fund will also be announced, to be administered by the Oakville Community Foundation and to award scholarships. This years gala will be held at the Oakville Conference Centre, 2515 Wyecroft Rd. At 5:30 p.m., dis- plays will open.
