Being a back bencher at Queens Park provides lim- ited clout or notoriety especially when you publi- cally disagree with the party line. Despite that Kevin has been aggressively challeng- ing the issue using every arrow in his quiver. Lest we forget that our Prime Minister received worldwide criticism at the past Copenhagen Conference on Climate Change. This is the party whose political base is in Alberta where the oil sands are the countrys largest carbon emitter. National Geographic has documented the last- ing and wide spread destruction of the environ- ment from the oil sands. If this is the position of the Conservative Party then it would be hypocriti- cal for either Harper or Young to take a stand against gas power genera- tion. This is the party of Big Oil and as we have seen with the Gulf Oil disaster. No matter what your political affiliation may be, we all have to collec- tively make sure that our elected politicians take full accountability for decisions that are made affecting their jurisdic- tion. The residents of Oakville cannot be forsak- en by politicians who have abdicated their responsibil- ity to the voters. The mayor and council- lors of this town have relentlessly fought this battle. The buck stops with our federal government to pro- vide the leadership in cre- ating a cleaner environ- ment. Can we ask Terence Young as to where the Prime Minister stands when it comes to the health and safety of people of Oakville?
