- SIR WILFRID LAURIER
A great man has fallen. One of Canada's foremost sons has passed away. In the sudden death of Sir Wilfrid Laurier Canada loses her leading statesman, who for nearly fifty years has faithfully given the great wealth of his ability in the service of the country he loved so well. For fifteen years he was Canada's prime minister, and no premier in the history of our country administered public affairs with greater skill and statesmanlike ability. With absolute honesty of purpose and with sterling integrity he governed the affairs of state. Ever alert to Canada's best interest his regime as Premier stands out on the pages of our country's history in the clear light of an honest, unselfish purpose and with unqualified credit to his revered memory. It was well known that he earnestly desired to spend the closing years of his busy public career at his beloved home in the his native county in the Province of Quebec, but the claims of his country and the leadership of his party, which he held as a sacred trust, kept him virtually in harness until the very hours when his sun went down in happy release from the exacting responsibilities of public service. Canadians everywhere, irrespective of party or creed, unite in feelings of sincerest respect and esteem to the memory of this great and useful, noble and good Canadian. Sympathy for the sorely bereft Lady Laurier, his life's partner and close companion, is nation wide. - Featured Link
