THE DEATH OF JOHN R. BARBER

Lived in the Town of his Birth for
Seventy-Six Years
A LARGE FUNERAL ON TUESDAY

Mr. John R. Barber, died at his residence at Georgetown on Saturday morning, after a prolonged illness. Deceased was a son of the late James Barber, was born in Georgetown and spent the whole of his busy life in that town.
In 1880 he succeeded his father as proprietor of the Georgetown Paper Mills, which he successfully conducted until he retired from business a few years ago. He was also President of the Barber & Ellis Co., of Toronto, and of the Toronto Paper Co., of Cornwall.
Mr. Barber was loyal to his native town and county. He took a keen interest in municipal and educational affairs. He was for years a member of the Council and of the County Council. From 1898 to 1904 he represented Halton in the Provincial Legislature. He was a Liberal who thought for himself. He enjoyed the esteem of all and was influential in large measure in securing the numerous public advantages which Georgetown enjoys.
The late Major Barber was twice married. There survive two daughter and three sons of the first marriage and a son of the second. They are: Mrs. M. C. Bell, Hamilton, and Mrs. (Major) Gordon Brown, Hamilton; Mr. Frank J. Barber, Georgetown; C. R. Barber, Cornwall; Major R. R. Barber now in France, and Mr. J. R. Brown, jun.
The funeral on Tuesday afternoon to Georgetown Cemetery was one of the largest ever seen in Georgetown. Many leading citizens of the province attended.
