Laid At Rest In Acton.
During the Christmas holidays Mrs. W. J. Cook, of Toronto, spent a week or so in Acton with her sister, Mrs. Robt. Mills, Sr. and other relatives here. Shortly after returning home she was stricken with paralysis, other complications set in and she died last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. Cook were frequent visitors in Acton and on several occasions they visited Fairview Cemetery, were pleased with its well kept appearance, and decided to make it their last resting place. Accordingly the remains of Mrs. Cook were brought to Acton on Monday and the funeral took place from the home of Mr. Wm. Gurney on Tuesday afternoon, Revs. G. B. Cooke and Joseph Edge officiating. Mrs. Cook was born in County Cavan, Ireland, and came to Canada in early life settling in Quebec. In 1868 she was married to Mr. W. J. Cook, her sorrowing husband, in Montreal, and the twenty-six years since have been fraught with continued happiness and family comforts. Deceased was a devoted member of the Church of England. A peculiarly sad feature in connection with Mrs. Cook's death was the failure of her son by her first husband, Mr. W. J. Bennett, Billings, Montana, to reach Toronto before his mother's death. He had been in the far west for over a quarter of a century. Upon receiving intimation of her illness he left at once on the long journey hoping at least to reach her in time for a last farewell. This however, was denied him, the spirit of his mother having taken its flight before his arrival. The sympathy of all who know them is felt for the bereaved son and husband.- Featured Link
