An Esteemed Citizen's Death.
The death of Mr. Peter M. McCann carpenter and builder, last Friday morning, cast a gloom over this community. Mr. McCann was taken ill the previous Saturday with inflamation of the lungs, and his constitution being weak ever since he suffered from a severe attack of typhoid fever several years ago, he gradually succumbed. By the death of Mr. McCann the town loses an industrious, hard working and highly esteemed citizen. He was the son of the late Matthew McCann, one of the earliest settlers of this vicinity and was born on the homestead on the 1st concession, Esquesing in 1839. Twenty years ago last Monday, Mr. McCann was married to the partner in life who survives him. Shortly afterwards he removed to Chicago, where he did well. He returned to Acton some 13 or 14 years ago, where he has since resided. A devoted wife and four children mourn the loss of a husband and father who was ever kind and considerate. The funeral last Sunday afternoon was very largely attended, in fact, St. Joseph's Church was totally inadequate to accommodate the crowds which thronged there. After a short service by Rev. Father Cote, the pastor of deceased, the remains were interred at the R. C. Cemetery in the presence of a large concourse of friends and neighbors.- Featured Link
