Mr. John McArthur will open a general store in the new building op- posite Atkinson's hotel about the 1st November. Jchn McMillan, who has been manager in Dr. Ghent's store for the past two years left this place last week. He was highly respected and carries with him the best wishes of a large number tf acquaintances. He Roes to Toronto. Mr. A. Webster having sold his property and busmess here, is selling of his store goods and will give up possession on the SOth of Oct., to Mr. James Brander, the purchaser. We regret very much to loose Mr. Web- ster, who has by enterprise and inte- grity made a host of fast friends. Our bridge which was carried away by the spring freshet, has been replac- ed, completed and highly commended as a creditable job. The stmctare cost t]ie Township over $500, and ought to be a substantial bridge, not requiring any further outlay for re- pairs for many a year, but instead of this we have one of the most disgrae*- fall jobs imaginable. A few days after the bridge was finished and con- tract passed the water was raised by the null dam being completed andthe gates closed, the oonsequenee was the sand with which Ute approaches to the bridge is filled gave way with the water ;to such an extent as to lower the rokd sufficient to bnty a horse beside 'tbe bridge making it at onoe impossible. Another oootnot faadto be let and is now eem^eta, iStiag np the sonken porticn of the approaches mak ing it again passable, and costint; some $25 dollars, but this will most certainly go down when the water is again raised, the fiact of the matter is the approaches are without a proper foundation and will continue to be a bill of expense, (we might say a sink- ing iundj to the township until some- thing more substantial than sand is used for such filling. We as a village /eel justly indignant for the way this bridge ha« been handled. We con- sider when such contracts are to be let, a competent person should be em- ployed to draw out specifications and not liaye the township funds squan- dewd in such a manner. Dnndalk. Snow fell freely here, on Friday and Saturday. Satisfactory progress is being made on the drainage works. The veneering of McCuUough's hotel has been commenced. P, T. Smyth, late of Dundalk, has arrived safely at his destination in Chili, South America. The band will enliyen the exhibi- tion on Thursday evening and Friday afternoon, by their presence. Inspector Ferguson visited our school lately and appeared to regard it as progressing satisfactorily. Mechanics are working hard at the addition of the Agricultural Hall, which wiU be ready by show day. Several new buildings, besides those in process of erection, will be built before winter, that is if it does not set in too soon. A representative of one of the rival firms of school book publishers was here this week, but as the other house was not represented, there was no war of words. The merchants have been busy during the week, stocking Iheir shelves with new goods, and brushing up and re-arranging old ones, with a view to business on Thursday and Friday next. The county valuators were here last week engaged in the valuation of Pro- ton. From what can he learned, the valuation will not be favourable to the poor towi?ships. Candidates for Municipal honors are smiling serenely on the ratepayers just now. At present there are pros- pects of being lively times at the next municipal election. The names of J. J. Middleton, T. Hanbury, A. Mc- Phail, D. McMUlan, and T. Fennel are mentiraed in connection with the Reeveship. It is understood that our present Reeva will not run again, Mr. Agnew the present Deputy Reeve will probably be a candidate for the same position next year the councillors will probably all be in the field with some opposition though to what extent is at present uncertain. MANHOOD HOW LOST, HOW RESTORED x?=^^â€" -X We haye recently published a new SEAIj jedition of Dr. Culverwell's Cele- i^^Y^^BBATED Essay on the radical and permanent cure (without medicine) of Ner- vous Debility, Mental and Physical incapaci- ty. Impediments to Marriage, fec.. resulting from excesses. IS" Price, in sealed envelope, only 6 cents, or two postage stamps. The celebrated author, in this admirable Essay, clearly demonstrates, from thirty years' successful practice, that alarming con • sequences may be radically cured without the dangerous use of internal medicines or the use of the knife pointing out a mode of cure at once simple, certain and effectual, by means of which every sufferer, no matter what his condition may be, may cure himself cheaply, privately and radically.
