A Train Robbery.â€" When the To- ronto Grey, Bruce cashier attempt- ed to open the box containing the re- mittance from the way stations last Friday, he found that the lock had been tempered with. An examination proved that thieves had opened the box with a "jimmy " and had stolen $364 therefrom. The box was hi charge of the bag^agemar:. who had also to attend to'the switching of trams and while he was outside of his car attending to his other duties the thieves are supposed to have opened the box and carried off the money, A Strike. â€" A number of laborers were employed on Tuesday in loading the propellor Enterpi-ise, getting paid 25c. an hour, but at noon they struck and refused to go on unlefs they got 85c. Mr. Maughan, the purser, promptly paid them off and engaged a number of colored men to go on with the work. The strikers did not expect to see their places so promptly filled, and came back threatenmg to prevent the colored men from work- ing; but the Chief coming up with his forces the invaders retreated, leav- ing the colored men in possession of the ship.â€" O. Sheguendiah, Manitoulm Island Aug.31, 1888.â€" Dear Sirâ€" Tbe buggy you shipped me came to hand to-day almost without a scratch. I must say it is much stronger and much butter than I expected as for the paint- ing and trimming, and in every par- ticular it d'splays the finest workman- ship that I have seen since 1 came to this Island, the only fault that we can find with the buggy is that it is al- together too nice for our roads. â€" M.
