The War Workers of Providence held their annual fowl supper and election of officers Wednesday of last week at the home of Mrs. Sher- man Ottewell with 18 members pre- sent and' two visitors, namely; Mrs K. Leary of Feversham and Mrs. John Wilson of Kimberley. The first part of the business was the election of officerrs. Mrt. Alex Maxwell, our 1&46 President, declared her chair empty. Mrs. F. J. McKenzie was voted in a& President fox the coming year. Mrs. Lome Tupling, Vice- President; Mrs. Victor McKenzie, Treasurer, as has been for the pafet three years and Mts. Wm. Izard, Secretary; Mrs. M. Hindle, Lunch Convenor; Sunshine Committee, Mrte. F. Shortt, Mrs. Percy Semple, Mrs. Alex Maxwell; Buying Committee, Mrs. C. Shortt, Mrs. M. Sayers. A luoky ticket wa's won by Mrs. S. Ot- tewell. The Janaury meeting is to be at the home of Mrs. Wm. Izard, on January 9th, 1946. All enjoyed a bountiful supper of chicken and duck and Christmas pudding. The pudding was made by Mrs. Walter Wilson and Mrs. J. F. McKenzie. The meeting closed with thanks co our Maker for health and prosperity. Miss Nonpa Maxwell is having a few holidays in Toronto. Mr. Leary, teachers and pupils of Providence Church are busy at pre- sent preparing for their annual Christmas entertainment to be at the •church on Tuesday evening, Dec. 18. Harold Clark of Ottawa was home over the week end. Miss Marjorie Newell hafei gone to Owen Sound for the winter, where she has secured a position. The Sunday Schol concert will be held in the Church, Wednesday, Dec. A pleasant party was held in the community hall on Friday evening, in honour of our newly weds, Mt and Mrs. Don Graham. The usual gifts were presented and the usual speeches made and song* sung and a tasfy lunch enjoyed. There was a good attendance at the last meeting of the W.I. held at the home of Mrs. T. Soul. After the business period, a plendid paper on "citizenship" was given by Mi's. Les McMuUen. On Tuesday, Dec 4. the W.A. of the United Church was held at the home of Mrs. B. A. Carruthers. Rev. L. E. Soul and Mrs. R. D. Carruthers. Recent visitor's were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Graham and Mr. and Mrs. Neff at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Graham. Dr. Patterson of Toronto spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Weber. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Weber, who have been living in Markdale since their marriage, have moved into the apartment here, recently vacated by Mr. and Mrs. Jack Graham. The United Church congregation were pleased to welcome Mir. an<I Mi^. H. Dawn and Miss Dawn of Quiet Valley on Sunday morning. Geo. Haines Jr. has just returned from overseas. Everyone is pleased to have him safely home again. Miss Marie Hutchinson of Owen Sound was home over the week end. We are all pleased that our Mr. H. Dawn and our Mr. Geo. Hainee, Sr were returned to Euphrasia coun- cil as reewe and deputy-reeve respec- tively. VIC rORIA CORNERS The lodge members and families were guetits of the W.I. mennbers and families in Proton Orange Hall on Friday night, Nov. 30. A very pleasant social evening was spent. iMr. Alvin Ferris, Toronto, visited during the past twj weeks with Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Ferris. The two men enjoyed some good hunting. Mi^ Elva Hunldng, D.H.S. com- panion of Miss Hazel Jiackson spent the week end at the latter'a home. Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Stevens, Dun- dalk, were Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Gallagher and attended service at Ini'stioge on Sunday after- noon. Mr. and Mrs. Jias. Copeland at- tended the wedding of their nephew, Vernon Goading and Miss Jean Evans in Streetsville United Church on Saturday, December 1. Vernon, we might add, was a prisoner of war in Germany for some months. Mrfe. Copeland ife now visiting in the home of her son, Mr. Nelson Copeland, at New Toronto. Mr. Wm. G. Talbot and daughter, Muriel, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Clem Livingstone and family, Corbetton. Thu annual W.A. meeting of Inis- tioge United Church will be held on Thursday afternoon, at the home of Mrs. Elwyn Ferris. All members are urged to attend. At this meeting a box will be packed for Glenn Jack- son, R.C.A.F., 'stationed in -.Alaska. MAXJVV^ELL The Women's association held a very "successful bazaar last Wednes- day evening. The play presented by Feversham talent was mucn enjoyed by all present. The proceeds amounted to over |80.00. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Fenwick and Marjorie and Elmer and Mr. McCauslin of Red Wing visited with Mr. and Mr^s. John Fenwick on Sun- day. Mr. and Mrs. David Ferguson left' last Friday for their home at Hud- son Bay Junction. Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ross accompanied them as far as Toronto and spent the week end there. Mr. and Mrs. CllCford Taylor and son, Elmer, of Portlaw and Mr. ana Mrs. Wm. Stephens and daughter, Helen, Feversham, visited on Sun- day with Mis^s Mabel Ross. Mrs. J. Crawford attended com- mencement exercises of Preston high school and vi'sited with her sister, Mrs. Bla'sehke, and daughter, Joan, The latter was awarded a scholarship on her third year high school work, for which she receives the congratu- lations of her friends here. Mr. Grant Sayers presided. The meeting open- ed by singing a hymn. The Lord's Prayer was repeated in unison. Mr. Ken Nichol read the scripture lesson. The roll call was answered by saying a verse of tecritpure. Mrs, Sims was in charge of the meeting. Sides were chosen by the President and Mrs. Campbell acted for the Vice- PreS-ident. Bible questions were given by Mrs. Sims and the latter's side won. The meeting closed by Ringing a hymn, followed with pray- er by Mr. Halliwell. Lunch was served by the hostes.s.
