She was 73 years of age. We are pleased to hear little Jimmy Fawcett is recovering from an attack of pneumonia. We are sorry to report the young son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Haines ill with pneumonia. The annual Christmas tree enter- tainment in the church on Thursday evening of last week was a real suc- cess. There was a large attendance, and a good supper was provided in the basement, followed by a fine pro- gram. Rev. H. S. (Warren acted as chairman and IMr. Thompson, Mrs. L. Johnston and Mrs. Geo. Buchanan had charge of the prtigram, which consisted! of chorv^ses, .' reciljations, dialogued, etc., by the children. The Y. P. S. meeting on Tuesday evening of last week was well at- tended. Mrs. W. Johnston gave a reading and Howard Graham led the discussion nad gave a couple of read- ings. Mr. Harold Thompson pre- sided. The skating rink committee had a well drilled during the past week and water was struck at 62 feet and a pump is being put in this week. It is expected to have the rink going before long. Miss Jean Wright is home from Toronto for the holidays. Miss Wise of Orangeville spent a few days with friends here. Mr. Albert Buchanan of Toronto is holidaying with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Buchanan. The Ladies' Aid will hold their January meeting at the home of Mrs. Geo. Buchanan on Wednesday after- noon, January 3rd. There was a good attendance at the church service on Sunday after- noon to hear the pastor. Rev. H. S Warren deliver his Christmas mess- age. Mrs. Kreiger of South Amer- ica was present and led in prayer She will take the service on Sunday. January 7th. Miss Gertrude Lyons has purchased the Park home from 'Miss Lena Park. It is risky for young men to leave a horse standing untied when prepar- ing to leave a public gathering. HawKen, 8th Line teacher, has gone to spend the holidays at her home at Harkaway. The Misses Mary and Isabelle Mc- Kee are holidaying with their par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Thos. McKee. Mr. Robt Plantt spent a few days including Christmas with his son, Fred, an^ family at Wareham. On Tuesday evening, December 19, the 8th Line public school teacher and pupils held a Christmas concert There was a good attenSance to lister to the excellent program. The pro- ceeds amounted to about |9.00. On Wednesday evening, Decembei 20, the Sunday school entertainment w«3 held in the church here. Suppei was served from 6 to 8 p.m. A pro- gram consisting of dialogrues, chor- uses, tableau, etc., was very good. Proceeds amounted to |18.00. There was also a Christmas tree laden with gifts for the children. Rev. Mr. Mc- Neill acted as chairman in his usual jovial manner. Mr. Geo. Park had the misfortune to receive a nasty fall. While lead- ing a team of horses into the stable, one of them tried to jerk away, caus- ing Mr. Park to fall and trailing him a little disftance, ibruising him con- siderably. We hope he will soon be well again. Mrs. Will. Irwin and daughter, Miss Ruth, of Windsor spent Christmas with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Lawlor. While in the bush last Wednesday, Mr. Walter Lawlor met with a painful accident, while he and Mr. Clarence Winters were cutting down a dead tree. As the tree fell, the men made haste to get out of the way; Walter slipped and the tree pinned him down before he could regain his steps and get out of the path of the falling tree. Clarence removed the tree, then carried Walter some distance to the clearing, placed him in a cutter and took him home. He is suffering from a broken bone in his right foot and • broken rib as well as bruises. It will be some time before he is able FEVERSHAM The &-hool concert held here on Thursday, December 21, drew a large crowd. The program was highly appreciated. Mr. E. Hawton acted as chairman and handled the lengthy program in a masterly manner. The teachers as well as the pupils of the continuation and public schools de serve great praise for the fine prO' gram given, consisting of plays, reci- tations and dialogues, lasting about 2V4 hours. After singing the National Anthem, all went home well pleased with the evening's entertainment. Mr. Walter Lawlor, a farmer living 1'4 miles west of here happened with a painful accident in his bush one day last week, while he and his broth- cr-in-Iaw, Mr. Clarence Winters, were cutting wood. In cutting down a Jry tree the top broke off and came down. Mr. Lawlor slipped on some ice, while trying to jump away and the top crushed one of his feet and broke one of the ribs off the backbone. Dr. Carter of Dundalk was called and had him taken to his office to have an x-ray taken, fearing internal in- juries. Mr. Lawlor ts now at home and doing as well as can be exi)ected. Miss May Whiteoak, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Nichol and children spent Christmas with Mrs. Nichol's parents Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Rpss, near Max- well. -V. Mr. and Mrs. Will. Teacher CEYLON The concert held in the school on Thursday evening was a decided suc- cess and reflected great credit oil both teacher and pupils. Taking the forni of a radio program. Miss Betty Stew- art at the microphone was announcer. The program consisted of choruses, recitations, drills, duets and trios, dancing, and three dialogues were giv- en, "Dickey Falls Asleep," "The Call of the Christmas Bells" and "'Taking the Census." At the close of the program Santa distributed the gifti from the beautifully decorated tree. We extend our sincere sympathy to the husband and relatives of the late Mrs. Dan Stewart who passed away so suddenly last Wednesday at her home near Priceville. Lost First Game Hockey was officially opened in Flesherton on Tuesday evening when Shelburne Senators played Flesher- ton and after a real close game emerged as winners by the score of 5-4. The game was quite even, al- thoug'h the score was tied three times Flesherton was not in the lead at any- time. Shelbume netted the first counter in the :^irst period when Fisher took a nice pass and Cairns soon after secured the equalizer. In the second period Hastilow and Mc- Cauley grave Shelbume a substantial lead, but this was cut down before the close when Cairns and Phillips each scored on combination plays Hastilow and Rutledge each bulged the twine in the last period, while Boyd secured the fourth groal foi Flesherton. The locals forced tht play for SLelhurne's end most of tlu third period and Raybum gave an excellent display of net minding and Flesherton had to be content with only one counter. The game wa8 fairly clean, Referee Reg. Boyd, giv- ing good satisfaction. The boys are billed for Shelburne next Tuesday night for a return g^ame when they expect to make Shelburne take a trimming the same as they did.
